Designer Pottery is a web site dedicated to the art of pottery & ceramics; it is dedicated to those people who, even today, in the world of high-flying technology, are proud to do things by hand; those people, who know and believe that when something is carved and created with the time, love, and touch of a human being, no product made by machine, no matter how efficient or precise, can have the character or value that a hand made thing can.
Today, we have lost the value of all that holds character; almost everything in our lives is mass-produced. In an age where the US public is making jokes about outsourcing Congress to India, this web site is a salute those who are talented and determined enough to not lose their crafts.
That said, Designer Pottery is a marketing and sales tool for pottery & ceramic artists and designers; a networking tool for pottery & ceramic enthusiasts; a learning tool for those who are interested in the art.
Designer Pottery is currently a work in progress. I started working on this project in January, although it has been on my list of things to do since August, 2006. Since I alone am working on this massive project, along with fifty other things that I must do, progress is slow, but it is coming along. At the earliest, we are a couple of months away from any kind of testing of the final web site.
However, if anyone would like to contribute, please look into the contribute and help section. I would love to be able to shed off some of the load of writing the code to manage the shopping cart and automated shipping calculations, if anyone is interested. As much as I would love to post a comprehensive feature list, for reasons to do with copyright and the stealing of ideas over the internet, I cannot do that. However, I will be dicussing functions, features, and goals on this web site.
As we head into the launching phase, specials will be offered to designers who sign up before the launch of the web site. Also, I would love to hear from those of you who would be interested in teaching and sharing your knowledge of ceramic art with the world. If you’re interested, I do not mind sharing the details of the project with you.
I hope what you get out of this is useful. A lot of thought and research has gone into this project, and I hope to finish it soon, for the benfit of the art world and myself.
